which 33x12.5r15 tires to get ?
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:03:54 AM »
Time for some new shoes on the xj. Currently have procomp mt that are heavily siped so that they work esp on ice and snow. They also have excessive side wall damage with three slow leaks on side walls due to driver error.   ::)
Lots of pros and cons with each tire , have included the federals cause they are increadable in the mud but do not know how they work on ice and snow. After a few miles on the new tires will probably sipe them anyways. Need thoughts and opinions.

Toyo's seem to be on the top of the list of everyone lately. I am going to get some new shoes for the Durango soon and I am on the fence between the Toyo's and the Duratracs. I am really leaning towards the Duratracs as Rob has put 60k on the current set and they have more than 50% remaining. They are also amazing on the ice and snow as well as the mud. Just my two cents!

I love my MTR-K's, I'd pit them against the Toyos any day. Other than that Baja MTZ and uhh yeah..... Toyo are a great tires. Also the Cooper STT seems to do really well

Toyos are heavy as lead-studded goose snot...but they work. On road, off road, whatever. My Toyo 35X12.5 take less weight to balance properly than my BFG 32X10.5's took. They're also uber tough if you get the e-rated ones.

I can't tell you how they handle winter roads, but I'd bet that if you siped them (or had them siped) they'd hold their own next to any MT. They won't deal with ice and snow as well as Duratracs, but they are far better than the Duratracs in the mud. I own one set of each, and I'd say that the Duratracs can only do about 80% of what the Toyos can do in mud.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Read that nitto was going to make that size  but nothing listed on there web site yet. They would be a contender if they made the right size. Tire weight is a consideration but then i got side wall leaks on my existing light weight mud tires lol

I really like my BFG KM2's, they throw mud, good on dirt, excellent in deep snow, good on the roads. And they cost way less than Toyo's.

I ran the couragia this year.... They are great off road, but daily driving is brutal, they won't last long at all on the street. But the price is right for their durability.

KalTire has 33x12.5x15 listed on their site but I was talking with my buddy and they don't have anything in the warehouse yet.  Must be brand new or something.

That's too bad about sizing. i have them on my dodge and they are sooooo good on hardpack/ice. i imagine they would rawk offrroad and the sidewalls are da bomb.

I haven't had any issues with them on snow and ice, in fact they run very well with snow. For a mud terrain, they have plenty of siping, which really helps for the ice.
