JK Aux iPod cord
« on: December 12, 2011, 08:18:20 PM »
Which cord are people running their iPods with?
1. 3.5mm on both ends
2. 3.5mm on one side and 30 pin on the other

I have the 3.5 on both sides but doesn't charge and sounds like sh!t. I can only find the option #1 and   #2 is available from china or the dealership ( which will charge $150).

Hoping to hear what's workin or if the #1 option is  best.

correct me if I'm wrong, but the 3.5mm plug doesn't transmit any power, so even option 2 wouldn't charge?

Boom! That's what I was afraid of. I have a cradle with the 30 pin end but it causes sooooo much interference when it's plugged in. I had a way better result in my TJ where I had a FM transmitter hard wired - it had a 30 pin coming from the glove box and charged the iPod and the sound was good enough for a jeep.
Thanks guys.

I have an 07 unlimited rubi.

The stereo looks like this:

Also, if anyone knows how hard it is to get the u-connect enabled from a jeep dealer that would be great too. From what I understand, just because you have the uconnect button, doesn't mean you have the functionality... Mine just says "u-connect not available" when I push the button.

Mopar e-store lists it at $356.00.  You would be better off buying an aftermarket deck.  You could get a nice deck, installed with bluetooth and ipod compatibility for that much.

if you press u-connect and it says not connected you need to have it installed.

Alternativly you can get a good aftermarket unit for half the price and it will have a better stereo.

Perfect. New deck it is. Not used to all the high-tech gadgetry in a Jeep that is just going to inevitably be beat on the trail! Oh well, might as well do it new millennium style (blue tooth and iPod ready!).

I Changed out the stock radio and put an Alpine IXA-W404.  Has the direct connect to the ipod, charges it, loads the music up and plays in 6 seconds from start up.  Hooked up a couple of amps, new speakers and sub... pounds like a champ
