tire hype & design

Ok... sometimes I wonder about all the tire hype and design...

Goodyears's new MT/R Kevlar -- asymmetrical yes, but also "directional" tires from what I've read.  I just realized looking at pictures of my truck with them that the tread pattern direction is opposite on each side, since Goodyear put white lettering on one side & black on the other.

Is it just me, or is this odd....

I've installed quite a few sets of these and nobody has noticed this (yet).  Basically it boils down to a slanted lug will not create as much road noise as a straight one, and they simply use one mold to make one tire, regardless of which side of the vehicle it's on.  they aren't technically a directional tire, although they do appear that way.  the only problems i've seen is when people mount these tires "backwards" (white letters in) and have excessive cupping due to what appears to be a smaller lug

Yes... angle blocks are always quieter, but I also thought (from that I read) that these were also directional designed tires.

Funny you mention improper mounting. I just saw a photo of backwards mounted set of these in a 4x4 mag. Can't remember if it was JP or not. I thought it odd looking with all the mud lugs on the inside.

Laugh... maybe I'm just picky and thought something was wrong...

I think the bug you are talking about is the block heater plug.

Asymmetrical, not directional - or so I hear. I hear that these tires are rich in zinc as well.  ;)
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(
