ABS/ ESP wires/08 jk
« on: April 05, 2011, 07:27:07 PM »
I have an 2008 jk unlimited rubicon. The abs light came on, I took it to the dealer ( Courtesy Chrysler ). They told me that the wires where broken and looked like they where pulled. The wires got caught in my bump stops. They could fix them for $900.00 :o. I was told that you could splice them and the jeeps computer would accept it.
Only the back passenger side was broke. I spliced in about 16" (one wire looked burnt), leaving a couple inches on the connector at the wheel and the same at the frame. I soldered the connections, shrink wrapped, covered with new plastic stuff,  taped the ends and zip tied (away from harm).
When I started the jeep the ABS lights were still on. I took it for a short drive and hammered on the brakes a couple times and the lights went off. I could feel the ABS working as well. I'm into this fix for about $10.  ;D. Do it your self !

ive seen a couple jk's within the last year that had this problem. passenger rear side, usually within a foot of the speed sensor at the r/r wheel. 900$ is a bit much in my opinion.

Yeah sounds like they are just trying to make some quick money.  There's no way materials and time can come to that much for changing out a wire.

According to Chysler it does  ::)

They have tripled their prices on parts in the last little bit. I went in for a spring retainer for an AX5 clutch fork. Used to be $2.75 and it cost me $6.92.

A friend of mine went for a switch which he bought 2 years ago for $75, they wanted $280!  Needless to say I'm excellent at finding parts at wreckers now.

Prices for everything are going to go up now that manufacturing in Japan has taken a massive blow.
