dana 60 with 70 shafts
« on: November 03, 2011, 09:32:37 PM »
ok guys fast question

i have a dodge dana 60 SRW full float rear diff and it has 30 spline shafts   im wondering if a 35 spline shaft from a dana 70 SRW will be the same lenght and flange size

does any one know

this would save me money on buying aftermarket shafts   and i can just hunt down some dana 70 shafts

I remember Steve Jueco had some minor issues running 35 spline shafts in his rear 60, I believe he had to have the tube ends bored bigger to fit the larger shafts (I'm not 100% positive what part but I know he had to have something drilled out bigger).

The spindle needs to be bored out to accept the 1.5" shafts, but i'm not sure about the lengths of the shafts if they would be the same or not.

I thought some 70 spindles were the same as 60's?
So many variations of both 60 and 70, SRW and DRW... I don't think you can say a 70 shaft will fit, or not fit.
Search Dana 60 bible to see exact specs of what you have, length, diameter, spline count, coarse or not, bearing sizes, etc... Then cross reference that into the Dana 70 bible  :)

After all this work, you'll most like explode that tiny little 5:38 pinion before anything else ;D

I already checked for the spindle and I have 1.65 inchs.  So I have space for 35 spline 1.5 inch shafts

Not worried about the pinion I'm running a stock motor

Checked the bible and no such luck.  I did find a guy that had a 60 an a 70 and in his post it showed the 60 shafts in the 70 and the flange end was the same

But I was hoping maybe someone had a more for sure answer

You should be able to buy brand new chromo's for somehwere in the 400$ range. Wreckers will charge half of that at least to break open a 70. I would look at new.

Why you gotta use the franglais spelling, Dom? In hen-gleesh it's spelt crOHMO
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

I'm running 5.38s and 36" IROKS on my rear d60 with stock shafts. Its in my 5500#, V8 ZJ and its the only part of the drivtrain I have not broken. That axle is now on its 3rd wheeling rig and has been bullet proof.

I would leave the shafts alone and spend the money elsewhere.

i already order a 35 spline spool for the rear .. so shafts have to be up graded . :)

no choice
