Engine cleaning

Is it a good idea to clean the the mud off the engine with a pressure washer or hose or just leave it?

I use simple green, pretty well a full bottle, let it soak and then use a garden hose to wash it all off.

The pressure washer is fast and easy....unless all that pressure forces water into somewhere it doesn't belong. If you keep the pressure washer a godo distance away from the engine, you'll probably be okay.

Binare's method would work pretty well too - and there's less chance of getting water somewhere it doesn't belong.

i use the tire cleaner at the car wash, let it soak then spray it off. Its green as well.

I put a tea towel in the air in take just incase I oops.  And pressure wash. Just don't forget to pull it out

I'm always a little leery of using a pressure washer in the engine bay.  I've had mixed results on a variety of vehicles.  Water seems to find it's way into bad places regardless of how careful I am.  I often just use a rag and some degreaser, and then rinse off with low pressure, like a garden hose.  Mostly the Jeep stays dirty though.

I pressure wash the eng and eng bay after wheeling. I hate having a dirty eng/bay! I use the tire cleaner/eng cleaner that comes out at the car wash.  It also gives me a chance to make sure that all the mud is gone and every thing is in good shape ( belts,hoses,general condition)
