Winter Runs
« on: September 05, 2008, 10:37:17 AM »
Does anybody do any winter runs?
I know EJC does them sometimes but i'm boycotting them :)
I was hoping maybe there might be a run at the beginning of the cold weather or at the end... I miss everything in between haha...

Winter wheeling can be some of the best all year. Winter runs of course. The CJA even has a members winter camping trip. The last two yeas we had a great turn out for that event. Many of us have tire chains for our jeeps. Chains are offten included as a minimum requirement on some of the harder winter runs.  It just takes more planing and a better suplied jeep to participate safely in winter runs.

I love snow wheeling.
But when it's just brown, frozen dirt, not so much.

But you missed the best part of the run.
Remember, a bad day of wheeling still beats a good day of not wheeling :o :o :o 8)

While I can't beat that, here is a link to one album of winter trip pictures...  I hope that this doesn't break the "no posting pics" policy.... it's a link, not pics...

I luv snow ... maybe some of  those with lotsa experience can post some tips and extra gear
they may carry ,  an safety - I see tire chains ...

here's something to consider when its barron out ,  through melt/freeze cycles and shade
steep hills can become bobsled shoots like in this pic ... its way more fun in 2foot of snow
than this :

http://www.msc-inc.ca/maclean_20050801/wiap_slipslide.jpg

this vehicle is going to fast and all 4wheels are locking up but it aint stopping ... so those
less experienced might wanna ride shotgun first .. the pictures blury cause the photographer  ::)
decides to move his vehicle forward another 100ft  now!!

edit:  this is a fairly steep grade ... pics never do them justice

snow=fun,  ice = not cool..... have had some fun azz times wheeling in the snow. its crazy fun.  we've been out in 2 feet in our full size fords we got stuck every 30 feet. fun times. also played on some icy hills, which can become very umm, problemmatic. lookin forward to it this winter
