4th /5th Gear Vibration
« on: September 12, 2008, 09:54:16 PM »
Model : 2000 Jeep TJ 4 Cyl

Lately the jeep has developed a vibration that begins in 4th gear around 70km/hr with what I would describe as a minor vibration that is not constant. Can only really feel it in the transmission tunnel and hear it. Nothing in the steering wheel or the shifter, but I've been underneath and both front and rear drive shafts over by hand while in neutral and was not able to observe hesitation on either drive shaft.  The vibration continues in 5th gear with what sounds like a low pressure tire on one corner so i am being lead to believe one of the tires needs re balancing, however, the vibration from 4th makes me believe its transmission related for some reason.

This weekend I'm going to rotate the tires to see if I can isolate what the problem is and maybe check the transmission fluid, but as far as diagnostics my skills are quite limited to the ole guess and check procedure so if anyone suggestions / direction is always appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time,

Tyler

I know with my cherokee I had the weight fall off the drive shaft and it gave a little shimy at about the same speed check for that I just went to the Pnp and picked on up got her in and the problem was gone
