God knows I lack recovery experience, but what on earth could come of that direction than yanking all (or part of) the YJ onto its side in the mud without extracting it a single inch?

It's as though the village folk from the cast of Deliverance decided to explore off-roading.

wow. amazing what beer, lack of experience, and complete absence of rational thought can accomplish.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Ayup, needed some better wrenches to swap the front driveshaft and a torch to get those stupid factory plastic retainers out... mine is locationally dislocated  ;D
