So can those folks who have in the past or who are currently owners of WJ's give me the low down on what they think of the 4.7l V8?  (Has any one added headers? ) Can you let me know what things on the vehicle will need replacement or repair after 80,000 - 100,000 kms?  I want to buy a used one, but don't want to get into something that needs piles of $, before I even get to the mods.  What should I look for if buying an '03 - '05?

You need to ask the WJ owners, the 4.7 never came out till 99 when the WJ did.

I have a '99 Limited, all-wheel-drive, 4.7L V8. I frickin' LOVE it. Completely stock, even the original stereo (albeit, it has tape, cd, and the 10 disc changer). It has 170,xxx kms on it. Bought it 3 years ago, and haven't had to do anything but maintenance to it. I will be doing brakes soon, and getting rid of the crap calipers that are on it. The stock calipers like to warp the rotors on these bad boys.
I highly recommend a WJ to anyone, but, that could just be my own opinion...

trevors biased, he has jeeps on the brain.

  but so do I

my 00' has 170k on it too. my brakes are crap. rotors were shot, calipers were to blame. i have to redo the system again. boo urns.  mine was having some tranny issues as well but a couple sensors have solved that too.  overall i do like it though. all wheel drive is awesome. many people knock it. i don't care. in this province its great.  interior is plush and comfy. other than that, no complaints. i do really like it
mine is riding on a 2" BB and its not bad. makes room for some bigger tires, it looks a little meaner which i do like.
overall i woulnd't drive anything else unless it were to be a diesel towrig, which would be for obvious reasons haha

I've got a 99 limited with about 200k on it.  The 4.7 pulls really strong, transmission shifted hard when cold but a tranny flush/condition fixed that.  Just changed the shocks, it didn't bounce around but they were leaking.  Had to do the brakes, the front rotors were warped, and a rear axle seal failed so the rears were done at the same time.  It drives straight as an arrow now.

When we bought it the cd changer didn't work and the tape deck didn't do us much good.  I just had to change the drivers side window motor and dash tweeter.  Other than that it hasn't given us any problems.  I'm glad we bought it over a car, it's so comfortable to drive on long hauls.
This is not 'Nam, this is wheeling.  There are rules.
