Second that w squared. Pulled a guy out of meadow creek years ago before the saggy bridge was there. 2 straps one clevis where used . Used strap broke at eyelet and clevis with strap come at me. Did not have time to blink. major damage to truck. Body shop replaced grill ,hood,windshield, all trim,wiper assembly and drivers mirror. Roof was repaired , Had to kick the windshield out to see to drive home.I was so lucky to be alive and the clevis did not come through the wind shield but bounced of the hood .

is there something like a blanket that u could put over a hook that if it was to break.. that would stop it from flying?.. yeah i know this was a while ago but i cant seem to stop thinking of how to try to stop it from happening again.. or to anyone elce.. any suggestions?

A floor mat will often work. ARB  makes a recovery "weight" that can be used. Failing that, a couple of jackets will work.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

properly bolted down hooks should never rip off like that .. ive given tugs to many people from the front and from the rear and neither one of our stock hooks that are still mounted to the stock bumber ever moved or broke and i mean good tugs .

there had to be damage to the bolts holding it on or something
but yes to avoid it a jacket will help

Glad to hear that you are okay.  Accidents like that happen in a blink of an eye

A good thick piece of dowel works great to join 2 straps plus it is very light so if a strap breaks it will fall.

What is dwell?
Ive always wanted to get something strong and light to join the loops on 2 straps, I always end up using a branch and have a hell of a time untangling it.

I have a wood hatchet handle in the jeep to join straps together.

i was thinking maybe a set of those 'truck nutz' things might work, i mean they can't possibly serve any other purpose can they?
