TJ Headlight Upgrade
« on: December 07, 2008, 03:01:38 PM »
Hey guys, wondering what you are running and what your opinions are of them.

I have been doing some research and am thinking of going with some IPF lens and X51 bulbs.

What else is out there is comparable in price and vision?

These are what I used and really like them:

I big improvement I also did was add a relay which allows the low beam to stay on with the high beams but you have to disable the DRL's to do that.

Did you have to get those round eyes out of the US of A, or is there a Canadian dealer?

The IPFs are nice too, bit the local stores want about 2.5 x what the US prices are.  Ouch!

I got the very first set they shipped to Canada direct from Roundeyes.

i picked up these "H4" sealed beams called silver stars or something @ can tire and they are great 5x more light than my stock ones and they where $20 a pop i think. white light too. On a night run xjwrencher asked what they where when I was following him cause they where so bright.

theres a good article in the new JP mag of some HID's. "Daylight at NIght". good tips on a certain brand.

I run the silverstars as well, They are way better than stock and is an inexpensive upgrade, can't remember the exact price but $50 for the pair sounds about right
I have read reviews about the roundeyes, they are supposed to be really good,
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

I run the IPF H4s and X51 bulb... the low beams are a true 80W even if they say 190W on the box (I can read the rest of the stuff... I have to brush up with my chineese  ;)). They make things look clear & bright. You see well in the ditches...it's nice when you drive on country roads... You see the critters coming from far.

I would also get some head light protection grills... they are cheap compare to buying another H4.

good combo... 2 thumbs up for me!

On my YJ I swapped in a set of Bosch lights with H4 bulbs.  The lens have a sharp cutoff and the reflectors put forth alot more light than the stock setup.  A huge improvement in lighting up the night.  I think they were $100 for the set way back when, $120 now at most auto parts stores.  I had a set of Cibie lights in my old VW GTi and they were even better than the Bosch, but I haven't seen Cibies for quite awhile.
near stock advocate

You see well in the ditches

Thats got me convinced!   :P  Hope your not driving in'em Dom!

With the reduction in eye sight these days, I am going with the largest increase in headlights.  Lights on order.

Thanks for all the input guys!
