changing gears, anyone?
« on: December 16, 2008, 12:52:23 AM »
I am fairly new to Calgary, but not new to Jeeps.  I own an 85' CJ-7 and am starting to build it.  I am thinking about changing my differential gear ratios.  Changing gears is beyond my skill level and I am looking for someone to help me.  I know there are shops that can do it, but I don't have that kind of money.  So if anyone can point me in the right direction or knows someone who does it for a reasonable price - please let me know.

I probably won't get around to it until spring or summer.

And my axles are the stock Model 20 and Dana 30 (currently geared 3:31's)

Thanks everyone!

If you have them out at the time, and its spring or summer, I should be free'd up enough by then to do them.

In the meantime, I'd suggest looking for a 44 to put in place of the 20.  Better axle to do your build with.

We can do the 20, but it should be trussed, and have a shaft conversion to be even remotely reliable.
