Hey there.  I'm new to Calgary, just moved from Saint JOhn NB and in december or there abouts I'm going to have to get that inspection done.  Can anyone tell me what they look for so I have an idea on what I need to do to my rig to make sure it passes.  Any help would be appreciated

Saint John?  cool thats where I moved from when I came here.  I don't know what they look for on a 4x4 point of view but I do know when they checked my mazda over they looked for brakes, brake lines, rust, tire tread, windsheild ect...  All the basic safety stuff.  They realy looked hard though even though it was a fairly new car.  Hopefully some others will have some tips on the upgrades for you just in case.  I'm not too sure what they look for on that end.  You could always go to an inspection place and ask them.  Someone there should be able to give you an idea.

Good luck with it :)

They also check the VIN # numbers over carefully to see if they match or have been tampered with.

Make sure the safety stuff is up to par.  Brakes, steering and suspension are the things that will fail you.  Make sure they are all working perfectly,  shampoo off any and all fluid leaks so that doesn't hurt you either.  If it looks like the Jeep is highly maintained, it will make your life easier.  If the windshield is all busted up, change it first.  Make sure you have good rubber also.  Take care of the easy stuff.

When I have done these inspections, I fail anything questionable with brakes or steering.  I can almost guarantee any technician with ethics would do the same.  Especially if his/her license is on the line if a recently inspected vehicle is involved in an accident because of a mechanical failure.

If your looking for an "easy" inspection, give me a shout, i know just the guy.  He will tell you everything that you need to get fixed, he will even show you how, or help you, he charges about $35, and will do whatever it takes to get your vehicle on the road right away.  He will let some things pass as long as you promise to get it fixed or adjusted, and he does all sorts of custom 4x4 and custom car stuff.  I wont say his name on here, but when i tell you, you may have heard of him.  Pm me and ill give you the number.
