So last time I was out I broke an axleshaft and stripped some teeth off the ring and pinion on my Waggy D44.
I've been collecting the stuff for awhile now to do a HPD44 and think now might be the time to do it.
When I built my Waggyd44 I tried to copy the stock locations as near as possible, I have seen some setups that move the coils back on the diff(centered on the tube) which moves the axle forward.
Other than more room at the back of the wheel well for the tire is there any other advantage to this? My steering setup is already pretty tight in front of the passenger side coil due to my raised trac bar mount. Which brings another question....
I'm running Claytons LA kit with his 8" coils and 36" tires. Do I need an over the axle lower trac bar mount? It was all the rage when I built my waggy axle 5 years ago but I don't see very many now and it makes clearance with the steering pretty tight.
I've got a lot things I'm not happy with on my waggy axle and don't want to make the same mistakes(or new ones).
Also one thing I learned is that building a bracket kit takes a LOT of times. I can weld very well but my fabbing skills suck so this time I'll be buying a bracket kit.
I see Claytons kit looks like it moves the coils back on the tubes a bit but I like the bridge by TnT. Just drops on, no way to screw that up! Does Evo make a D44 bracket kit?
BTW the axle I'll be using this time is a HP D44 from a Ford pickup that had leaf springs(welded on perches). Looks to be about an inch wider per side than my wide trac waggy axle is. Probably a 66-67" WMS?
