International Harvester BUYS JEEP!
« on: February 07, 2009, 01:06:16 PM »
Arguably the best thing to happen to Jeep since the Rubicon series! Now I am all for the GMC/Chrysler Merge (GCM).

I picked up my issue of JP mag in the mail this morn and what great news has flowed from the pages! I will quote a bit of the article for you, since I couldnt find the article on JP magazine website yet.:

"GMC doesnt want compitition for the Hummer or GMC trucks... GCM will announce, when the merge is final, that it has sold Jeep to International... IH signed a contract to keep all current Chrysler engine options for up to 5 years... Big news for the Wrangler in 2010, the IFS platform redesign to begin in 2013 has been sent back to the drawing board indefinitely, and in addition to a 5.7L Hemi option in the JK under the same 5 year contract, IH will offer the 3L v-6 (diesel) AND the 4.5L v-6 Maxxforce Navistar diesel engine wtih an Allison 1000 five speed tranny.... other immediate change is that all Jeep models (now restricted to wrangler, Grand Cherokee, and the Liberty, whos name will be changed back to Cherokee) will be available with RUBICON package  featuring front and rear lockers, 4:1 TC & electronic sway bar disconnects... Rubicon package will offer a 1.5`` lift  which will clear 245/75/R17 (31``) BFG MT KM2 tires for the Liberty and Grande Cherokee... future plans are to discontinue the Liberty name and call it the Cherokee again both over seas and in North America,... Other changes are SOLID AXLES under the front of the next generation of Grande Cherokee and Liberty... etc..

Hell yes.

This will be a great change.

If you havnt bought a JK yet, maybe hold off awhile, till International can strip Jeep from those clowns and give it some REAL power train options.

The Jeep & Ram line-ups have both been paying more bills than the other stuff.  There will certainly be some adjustments made with marketing & product lines but so far the biggest news is the Fiat will be helping with the development of more affordable 'entry level' & 'energy conscious' units.

There will still be smaller scale Cummins diesel engines introduced, but not sure exactly which units are getting which engine.

Like I said before...when I know for sure, you'll know too :o.

I've heard of diesel engines in compact cars...   But not Jeep...yet.  A diesel Jeep is waaayyyy overdue.
