Importing modified Old Jeep from USA?
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:43:57 PM »
I'm new to this site, tried searching.  I'm wanting to buy an old Flatfender Jeep from the USA.  Its pretty modified, lifted, 35's, actually theres probably nothing except the body original.  I've heard there can be problems with getting this across the border.  And even harder if I have to get it inspected to be licenced here.  Anyone with experience with this?  Advice?

I tried  getting a lifted Samurai from California here last year. It was a nightmare....long calls, on hold for an hour, no one helpful etc. It could be done, but it will make you wish you never did.I gave up after a month of calling, research etc.To get one to pass safety here and registered is also painful from what I've been told. It is much easier to get a stock vehicle over from the US. :'(

last i heard they were ABSOLUTELY NOT allowing any modified vehicles across the border.  had an 06 duramax come to my shop that the customer had to take the lift kit out in ND and borrow a set of used tires and rims before coming across the border, get saftied and plated here and then drive BACK to have his lift kit installed again.  seems that they don't want any modified vehicles coming across no matter what modifications have been done

I know Meangreen imported a Willys pickup from the USA last year or in 07. Maybe PM him and ask how he did it as it was completely modified.

If it is over 15 years old, you don't need to do the federal inspection. But you may have problems with a provincial inspection on a vehicle that old.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.
