well on on gong struggle to get my oop is REDICULOUS!!!.. already at an insane amount of money, but ran into a huge problem today when i was told my rear axel is bent, apparently my rear axel (only on the left side) is bent 2 degrees, now the shop there wants to replace it with a used dana 44.. at the ripe old cost of over 5000 bux ??? , can somone tell me what could have bent it??.. i can't figure it out, and if that price is outrageous like i think it is.. its a dana 44 stock axel from 2003 rubicon... they wont let me drive it so apparently i have to get er towed home, did get the front end fixed and shocks friday on a slighly positive note.. any help would be nice thanks

Ask them to show you how its bent 2 degrees. and which direction. It sounds like a load of turds. Have them park it on the street so you can load it on a trailer. Then get in and drive it away, once its on the street they can't do a thing about it.

ask them to see the alignment printout  from the alignment they obviously did.  I'm an alignment tech and I work at a frame shop.  depending on where it's bent, it can be straightened (by the right person).  besides, a new housing should only be around 2 grand from dodge.   at least they are for the 1-tons.  to put it in perspective, Ford twin I-beam IFS.........when you can JUST notice the tire leaning in at the top because the springs are sagged or the ball joints are ready to fall out, that's about 1 degree.   Two degrees is looking REALLY bad, especially on the rear.   now, if it's the axle shaft, that's an even cheaper story.  As a side note, mechanical shops DO NOT have the authority to pull a vehicle off the road, to my knowledge, so they are really trying to screw you around. >:( >:( >:(   make sure to ask for a kiss and at least dinner before they "give'er" to you.   Just my $.02

they given er hard already, but i seen the alignment sheet and it was out by 2 degrees.. they said it was housing, though i couldn't see it very good on the ground.. and you can slightly see it on the tire if you look close, but they never noticed until they put it on the alignment machine, now probably gonna try to hit up another shop and get another 44 put in.

word on the street is you can buy Rubi axles from the factory now for 1400 USD............
pull the axle shafts and make sure its not the axle shaft thats hooped and not hte housing. axle shafts are easier than a new diff

wheres your jeep at?  what shop/dealership are you at?

Well, you would probably have to work pretty hard to bend that Dana 60....
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

If I was closer, I'd go in there with you.  Being a younger guy, I bet they're thinking they can easily take advantage of you.

Tinkerer - Got a link to that website so he can print it off and take it in there for them? That should be enough to get the keys handed back...

just cause the alignment sheet sais its out doesnt mean its out. seriously. is this in a tJ? maybe one of the rear suspension arms is tweeked? so many other factors here. im amazed that a shop would say its a bent housing. does the axle seal leak on that side?
ive been a tech for many years now and shops like that annoy me. give us all a bad name:(
