« on: March 15, 2009, 10:33:33 AM »
the 37x13.50 m-16's should be here for my JK very soon, i was just wondering if anybody knows how bad they are going to rub only running a 4 inch lift? or any other problems people have been experiencing with this set up. any input is appreciated, thanks. :o

I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking you'll get some rubbing when they're fully stuffed....maybe a 1" body lift on top of the 4" suspension might get rid of that.

CONVICT has 37's on his rig....I'm sure he'll chime in when he sees this.

If you adjust your bumpstops correctly it should help with any rubbing issues

I've still got 32's on my JK, so this is not first hand info.

With a 4 inch lift, I'd wager that the combination of flat fenders and a trimmed pinch seam should elminate any rub issues. Either that or a body lift, and probably a trimmed pinch seam.

I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Yup, you'll have to either trim or fold the rear pinch seam or it'll gouge those pretty new tires.  My 35's just clear it when stuffed.  Inner fender-lining rub is going to depend a lot on your backspacing.  I barely get any inner rub with my 12.5" wide tires, last summer I ran SpiderTrax spacers and had no inner rubbing.

A short time ago , there was a discussion , with pics , showing a JK w/ 35's or 37's . It had some eye opening pics of a lower ball joint failure  on the trail .  Are these "modern" axle housings capable of living happily with larger tires ??? , or are they not. What are the limitations  ? .  Could  this have been a situation where that particular incident involved abnormal  or unusual stresses ?  , maybe the person that posted those pics could speak up.

I noticed he was trying to sell the rear diff out of the same jeep , one could almost assume he has lost confidence in the strength of the axles under this Jeep after messing up the front.

BULK UP YOUR FRONT AXLE.

Buy the axle tubes ($250) and some chromoly. Also at the end of march Longfield should be releasing their kits for the JK's Im waiting for that.

Most 4" kits allow for 37's. I too cut my pinch seam at the back. My 37's stuff very well but I have a 5" + 2" spacers. 4" sus and 1" body lift would work for you, spacers would be easier but then your looking at driveshafts.

Side note*
If you have a 2 door I have a body lift for you.

thanks for all the input everyone. are the front axles a must? at this point im a little strapped for cash due to the new wheels and tires. i read something in a thread earlier about welding tabs on the "c's" of the axle housing and thats been helping. convict, how much for that body lift? and any idea how much of a pain it is to install?

one other thing, im only running the dana 30 up front, its a 2 door sahara, are some of these axles caused by running that air locker with such big tires? or is it generally just to big of tire for the stockers to handle? cuz i had heard about this before, but its always been rubi's with the lockers.

37's on a Dana 30...Hmmm. You will probably not want to stomp on the skinny pedal with that setup.

No pain to install at all. I'll have a rear 44 with locker and a front axle with locker and wiring for sale soon. The front needs a tube, pass axle shaft, and pass stub shaft for sale. Just want $1200 for both.

Dana 44 with 37's. You cant see it but the diff it bent beyond use as well.

I dont think a 30 will hold up to 37's.
