Oilfield Sales TJ looking at 33x10.5x15 BFG KM2's advice pls.

My rig is an 04 TJ, Rocky Mountain edition, 30x9.5 stock, D30/44 3.73's, I6, 5 speed, wider flares.

I am considering the 33X10.5 BFG KM2's or maybe 31's (less hassle but 33's just look so right) for my truck.  I've read many posts on many forums and think 2" BB plus 1" BL might be standard advice.  I do not want vibes or anything to affect the great ride my stock rig has.  I would like to go max 1.5" front BB and 1" rear BB, for the rake, with 1" BL.  No shocks, SYE or shovel drop, gears, adjustable track bars etc..  All comments welcome but keep in mind I am cheap and as everyone in Alberta knows times are tough.

I drive lots of lease roads and hiway but never wheel or disco.  I am also considering the 31's in Firestone Destinations.  Mud performance with reasonable hiway manners is my goal.

If you're doing oilfield sales, there's one other thing that you'll need. Toughness. I've spent seven years running around the patch in one tons.

I'd spend my money on Toyos. One set for the winter, one for the summer.

M/T's for the summer, and M-55's for the winter. I've driven a lot of lease roads with M-55's on.

Yes, they're a bit more expensive than the BFG's, but they're tougher. You'll spend less money replacing tires.

If you don't want to spend the money on the toyos, do yourself a favour and run an AT in the winter instead of an MT (or at the very least, sipe your M/T's)

Cooper also markets a studdable AT in Canada. Apparently it is not a bad tire. You may or may not be able to find Toyo M-55's that are pinned for studs in Canada - depends where you shop.

Very good advice.  I run studded Nokian LT's for the winter.  I run studded winters on all axles on our vehicles.  I don't understand folks who don't.

Your account of the Toyo's is interesting.  They are the only other company that makes the 33x10.5x15 MT.  How are they in mud?  Luckily mt TJ is light and I don't carry any loads obviously.  They are pricey but I will get some quotes.

Thier website says they are constructed to higher standards of uniformity and balancing, would you concur?

go with the toyos .. all the drillers i know run them on there F350's and they get like 60-70,000 km out of them worth your money

if you want a smoth ride stay with a 31   .. going to a 33 is getting on the big side .. my brother fits 33's with no lift just some wheel spacers so they dont rub when at full turn

they do rub off roading but not very much . but since you dont wheel youll be fine, but i would suggest staying with a 31 .
plus with the 373's youll find it gutless with 33's

and you should be able to fit 31's with noooooooooooooooooo lift and nooooooooooo BB or BL

so that means no change in drive line angles .

I've never run Toyo MT's, actually. I've seen them on some fleet vehicles, but never driven one. We didn't have any problems with the trucks running the MT's, but I can't personally vouch for their oilpatch longevity like I can with the M55's.

I will say that their M55's are about as tough an AT as you'll find. Far tougher than the BFG AT's. The Toyo Open Country is also a good AT. Less void space than the M55, but a lot of siping for a non-winter specific tire. I've also used those tires for 10's of thousands of KM's in the patch, and been impressed.

There are some folks on here that have earned a lot of respect for having opinions solidly based in fact and extensive wheeling experience who swear by the Toyo MT's.

As cool as 33's look you may find the power loss too much and the size not really neccessary.  If it's windy you'll probably have trouble in 5th on the highway plus it may feel like it catches the wind more.  I ran a 2"BB with 31's and it looked well rounded and had lots of power, just get good shocks to go with it (the Rancho 5000's ride really rough).

I can send you pics of mine when I had the bb and 31's if you'd like.  I'd recommend going 31's over 33's.

I don't travel too many lease roads but I'd bet the roads at the coal mines would be about the same if not worse.  Seems every time we take a truck out there with stock tires we always get flats (more than 1).  The mines use Yokohama Geolander at's  (10 ply) I can only assume they hold up well to the sharp rocks they use for road crush.  I'd look for something with a strong tread face, although they'd ride more rough.

On a side note have you put in the truetrac yet?

I haven't put in the truetrac yet as I have about 20K kms of powertrain warr. left.  Also considering the truetrac for the front.  

I am beginning to lean to the 31's.  Truth is I need 31 MTs, I want 33's.  My GY Silent Armors are great AT's but in the gumbo they and most AT's are next to useless.  I've been searching tonight and the KM2's are a bit suspect in their mud abilities.  The 31's and 33's are C load 6 ply.  My experience is that the 10 ply's are just a little too much for my needs with the light TJ.

Also I find the 30's and 3.73's a great combo for my driving style.  Is the 33 upgrade that noticeable?

There's about 10% more tread to go around each tire the tire rotates and there's the added weight to figure in as well.

I have driven on site with the Toyo AT's, so a fair bit of mud and road use.  Good ride on the road and for an AT they are a very aggressive tread patterns.

You'll notice a fair difference in going from 30's to 33's.

As for a tire shop I've always had good luck with Kelly at Country Tire in the North East.

Well, I gave my head a shake!  Going with 31's, can't beat install and drive home.

I called Country and they gave me the best quote on Firestones MTs.  The toyos are tempting but I think it will be the Destination MTs.  The situation in the patch and wage rollbacks just make every dollar precious. 

Please, just one more oil boom and I promise not to pi## it away for the third time.

Toyo doesn't make a open country mt in a 31x10.5r15. just the OCAT
