what do you think of supercharging the 4L?

So I got to dreaming and found this kit, easy bolt on, don't need a body lift.  Still in testing stage though.  Is the engine and drivetrain sout enough to handle the power of a supercharger?

for the $4800      u can find a nice engine swap  me thinks
a little V8 power never hurt nothing :o

True, it is expensive, but a little less work.  A V8 swap would also be cool though.

Dac, I think Avenger also makes a blower for the 4.0l. I don't think I've ever known anyone that has done this particular mod. I don't think it would be a good idea for slow trail work. You kinda have to build your motor to take the abuse. Proper gearing and some modest mods to the motor should suffice in most applications. I guess if one did a lot of mud racing or hill climbs...

Gearing and lockers would make the most sense for now and will happen before a supercharger, but the supercharger is kinda neat.

Avenger I believe you need a body lift though.

Super chargers need a little RPM to really start building power, for exploring trails I'd say "there's no replacement for displacement" drop a 8 in it

a long while ago i had the pleasure of installing an avenger supercharger on a heavily modified jeep tj. it had the 4.0l and 6 spd. from what i remember of the install and the aftermath, id say it was a lot of money spent and moderate gains. avenger did not have a computer tune upgrade. and from what ive heard that jeep i installed the avenger on had a custome tune done on it and that helped. but again, it cost a lot. so if you want to go the supercharger route then be sure that it is a very complete kit with the computer tuning.
i did a turbo as well and that one was impressive at mid to upper rpms. it was beyond a typical jeep actually.
personally, id waste my money stroking and poking. more suited for the low rpm torque we really need;)

My grandfather used to say the shortest distance between two points is a V8. ;D
