anyone order tires up from the states? what did you get dinged for delivery, border charge, or other means of robbery?

thinking about bringing some rims and tires up from the states, but wondering if the massive savings will turn out to be a mistake once the final bills hits my bank.

Be careful. Customs has a LOT of powers that don't normally get exercised...and sneaking something across the border might result in losing your vehicle.

OR, you could always drive down, throw on new shoes and just drive right back across....  I would have done that if anybody had the tires I wanted close to the border.

If you stay in the States for 48 hours you could legally bring back the tires.  Your allowed a 1 time purchase of $3000 /year     I'm sure there is a web site that can be checked to find out all the rules

if you find a good deal on the tires at a shop out here they can help you out with any warranty issues that arrise. tirerack and so on cant help you if your tire goes flat after driving it for a day.

you can claim the tires. all that you pay is 5%gst.
so if you dropped 2000, you pay $100. that's it.
i used to be creative at the border, now i just pay as it is a small amount.

Personally, I view it in my best interest and that of my community to support local business. They're my neighbours and they pay taxes to local schools and hospitals. If everyone sources out service related to MY line of work than I am out of work in short order. In the end that doesn't serve any of us any favours when I'M no longer paying taxes. We might all save $10. and conversely ALL be out of work shortly.

I recently got my Warn Powerplant in Calgary FOR LESS than most every US outlet online, and in CDN dollars from local business employing local people who pay taxes. How many bridge building projects in Alberta have firms in Pennsylvania or Ohio chipped into this year with sponsorship of local club endeavors?

well i agree on supporting local buisiness to a certain degree, but when there are possibilities of savings in the hundreds, then the competition wins. It also is a catch 22, if the locals are flogging american made goods... thats why i am looking forward to DSO new product line. And yea, tell me about, i am out of work right now, and cant seem to find employment. it sucks wontons.

i got quoted by a local offroad shop for $130 for plain steel white rims, you can find online for 60 bones. thats the when i will cross the border for product. If its a mear 10-20% more then i will be more likely to throw some paper around in my area.

same reason smart ppl cross the border for a new vehicle.

I WAS going to buy my BFG KM2's here in Calgary.  Only 3 places I called would sell them to me.  And when I can order them online, with NEW wheels, with new lug nuts, MOUNTED, balanced AND shipped to my door for a savings of about $135, and I'm buying 5 ($675), I think the locals lose out.

If the tire's made in the US, who cares who you buy it from.  If the guy's going to jack you on his markup and isn't giving you the deal, you buy elsewhere.  You buy $15 carrots that come from the US but are sold in your local grocery store.  I doubt it.

they make those in pictou county Nova Scotia (ok maybe not ALL the KM2s)
They need all the work they can get there
