Most of the time, the CJA runs on channel 10.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Red Deer Jeepers have adopted the same channel 10 as the CJA.
I'd rather be dragging a club than clubbing in drag

channel 9 is the "emergency only" channel if i am not mistaken. so if you get into some hurt, switch it on there and make some calls, but dont mess around on that channel cause you could get in sh*t from the air time regulator guys.

Also make sure that you tune your antenna before you start transmitting. If the antenna is reflecting too much of your signal back to the CB, you could potentially damage it.

If you don't know how to tune, there are a bunch of threads on this board that will guide you.

I had no idea. I instaled the radio and installed the antenna on the back of the spare tire. There is about a foot and a half above the jeep. The radio is a cobra from the 80's by the looks of it. Back home I had a midland with a 30ft groundplain whip on my house with a power microphone.

A foot and a half above the jeep = probably good. From what I've read, you want to get as much of the antenna above the roof as possible - but bear in mind that with modern fiberglass whips, there's wire wrapped around them. You want to get as much of that wrapped segment above the roofline as you can.

The other thing is that "ideal" performance out of a CB on the trail isn't as important as making sure that your antenna doesn't get ripped off you Jeep when you're squeezing through a tight spot - or going into an underground parging garage.

CH4 is the channel most commonly used channel in the bush by 4 wheelers unless you are running with a club that has adopted another channel. CH19 is most commonly used b truckers and is good for getting traffic information.

CH9 is reserved for emergencies but no one monitors it. DO NOT USE IT WHEN TRYING TO CALL FOR HELP IN THE BUSH! You won't get anyone cause anyone in the bush has their radio on CH 4 or 10 or whatever their club channel is. You MIGHT be able to get a trucker on 19 depending on how far back y0u are.

So I think I need to upgrade the coax cable and figure out why all I get is static when the jeep is started and none while it is turned off. I have it hard wired to the battery. Could anyone help tune it so it will work?  Still a huge nubie!
Thanks Corey

Lots of amateur radio operators on here I see.  I don't want to buy an swr meter for one time use.  8)
