New rear bumper/tire carrier

so I finally got myself a rear swingout cause as you know, the YJ doesn't really have a lot of space for such things.

big thanks to Craig (Krossloch/Darkside) up in Edmonton for fabbing it up for me, I really like it especially the design and its pretty beefy.  anyways, no more words. pics!!

Just wanted to remind you of the extra mounting points, as Yj bumper mounting points are so flimsy dude!
I am glad you like it Johnny, always a pleasure doing business with ya buddy.
Maybe we should make that a mid range budget bumper w/sotc for Cj, Yj, and Tj's?
I am getting the hinges/spindles machined for me now, and am fully confident in the strength and quality.

You do frame tie's on it John? You'll want to if you havnt. They are a bit tricky on YJ's, but I've done them before. So it is doable. Even with the 4 holes per side on a YJ, they are still prone to shearing with rear swingaways.

I cant remember, but I think Scott and I did a set on his black YJ.


Oh yeah, looks great by the way. Stripes are cool. The bumpers not to bad either

His bumper has bolt reinforcement plates on all eight holes, nobody should ever trust the thickness of the original bolt holes. Also, i built his hitch plate to come under his rear crossmember, then punched four holes that he had to drill up thru the crossmember, and then bolt between the crossmember and body. Does that make sense? Doesnt sound right, but that is the best way to word it.

well a good blast with the pressure washer and and the paint came right off...............

my feet. 


yep there are bolt plates behind the 'frame' part.  its not just the bolt holes. the plates were ( i believe) 1/4" plate, and they snug in the rear bumper behind the frame.  indeed these were a PITA to bolt up correctly but they are tied in behind all 4 holes.  i also drilled up throught he bottom of the hitch in the stated areas.  Craig i think for future reference (if u mount them on the hitch thingy again) the use of bolt plates would be a great idea; i could barely get my fingers on teh outside bolts let alone a wrench. a bolt plate (or two bolts on same plate) would take away the need for the wrench and i think make it easier.

or take the sawzall to the fram and cut out enough room to get a socket in there............. that'll be my route i bet

Yep, the plan is to make the inside plates with the nuts welded to them for easier access, and especially for guys with gorilla sized hands! But, I had some guy from down south pm'ing me every five minutes to have it built pretty GD quick!!! and i had to get er done or he would kick my arse!

That is a very nice tire carrier. You boys are doing some good work in steel.

Here is a teaser photo of the new custom tire carrier we were test fitting on my jeep this weekend. It has been sent it out to be clear coated, I wish I had taken a better photo. I will post better photos once it is back.



Yes, it is built from aluminum and holds 2 fuel cans.
