The jeep needed some work.
« on: May 18, 2009, 08:47:52 AM »
Instead of wheeling or camping on the long weekend I spent it working on the jeep.  First stage, of a few weekend project, is a facelift. Saturday I spent the day striping out the jeep then cleaning and scuffing all the paint surfaces. 1 Box of Raptor truck bed-liner and some good gloss black automotive paint and I now have a HOME done paint job. I am new at this so a few minor touch ups will be needed  But I am very happy with the results.

Before

After

Over the next few weeks there are lots of new parts to go on the jeep many mechanical repairs that are needed.
Next weekend I hope to get the cage in  and start on the steering

That looks awsome, it probably looks a whole lot better in person.  Bring it on Wednesday :P.

Thanks! It is not perfect but I am very pleased with the result considering I did it at home with next to no experience.

It will be a few weeks before it sees the road. No seat belts until I get the new cage back in and it still needs a ton of mechanical work. I will be driving the Liberty for a few weeks. I plan to start working on the front steering next Saturday and work on the cage that weekend as well.  Today’s bad weather has delayed painting the cage.

In took a full day of prep work,  then a day of masking and painting. Should have done even more prep work. It will take part of  a day to put all the parts back on. The bed-liner kit came with a shultz gun to spray it on. The next door Neighbor lent me a spray gun for the gloss black paint as a top coat. A compressor for the gun.  You need a very good mask to spray the bed-liner, very strong stuff.

The jeep needs other work done before it is back on the road. I plan on wrenching most of Saturday so drop by if you want to have a look.

Thanks,
