Air Cond. Pump Removal

Has anyone Removed there air conditioning pump from there 4.0L engine and changed the serpentine belt?

Did this on a mustang of mine a few years back and was wondering if anyone has done it to a cherokee

are you going to remove the AC?

cause if you dont want to use it, you can just bypass it with a serpentine belt from another cherokee w/o AC. Thats what I did.

here is the part # for a smaller belt to bypass your A/C:

NAPA P# 25060790

This should be the one, but check at Napa to make sure.

Another idea is you could remove it for extra space under the hood, or spend money and just turn it into on board air.

There is a company who sells all the parts needed to do it. and many more builds on the net as well as in JP mag (check their site). The only reason anyone should fix their A/C is because theyre doing an air compressor conversion.

There's no freon left in it now, that why i was looking at bypassing it.  but the on board air looks very appealing.

OBA for sure if your a/c system is hooped.

if i remember correctly the clutch on the front of the pump doesn't engage either.  is that an easy fix??

if there is a pressure switch in the system, the clutch on te compressor won't engage if the system has drained down. Jump a wire straight to the compressor and see if it will engage then.

jump it out without the engine running.... you won't rip a sleeve or anything worse.
