`48 CJ2A, `54 CJ3B, `97 TJ, and 03 WJ...batting close to .500 when it comes to jeep models owned vs. jeep models created.....

Might be cheaper to sell it and buy a 6 cylinder jeep. Or supercharge or turbo the 4 cylinder.  look around here  http://www.4bangerjp.com/forums/  you may find some usefull advice. You have to regstar to see the good stuff.
I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

http://www.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?ID=1335874&pgno=1&srt=7&r=calgaryalberta

look around you'll find 05's as well,

don't forget there is alot more than just the engine involved, you will have to change motor mounts computers and so much more

Hey!

Lots of work!

I am going through it right now with a transmission /transfer case upgrade.

Have a 90 YJ that had a 4 cyl. in it to start with.

It got a 4.2 6 cyl. upgrade.

They just swapped the motor, the tranny in the 4 cyl. was not rated for a 6 cyl., so I am now doing the rest of the upgrade.

( you may be lucky and have a AX 15 behind your motor)

If you have an AX 15 tranny behind the 4 cyl. then that is 1/2 your work done.

When I upgraded the tranny, I had to upgrade everything from the flywheel to the axle including the two drive shafts.

I bought used, so it will be about $1,200 upgrade but it takes days to do the swap.

I got very lucky and got all the items to do the swap, except one $20 piece and driveshafts. ( the cost could have been triple)

So the advise about trading to a 6 cyl. verses swapping has merit.

Greg

Swapping in a 4.0L for the 4 banger is just like any other engine swap, but you don't have to mess with any of the interior gauges.  The best way to do it is get a donor vehicle from the same or similar year and take the engine, tranny, t-case, computer, and underhood wiring harness.  The motors mount need to be cut off and new ones welded to the frame, driveshafts modified, new fan shroud, wiring, etc.

I have done this swap and I used a 94 XJ as the donor.  The XJ t-cases are clocked lower so I had to modified my skid plate and the bulkhead connectors between the YJ firewall and XJ wiring harness was different so it was easily to wire in 2 more cylinders than trying to change the connectors
'95 YJ with a few mods

In the last? canadian 4 wheel drive mag, there was an article about do it youself turbos on the 4 cylinder. One guy had doone it for $500.
I just bought it there may still be some on the bookshop shelves
if I could turbo my 4 banger that cheaply, that would be great .
if you interested maybe we could do it together and save a few bucks.
