Anyone work at a RV parts Store?
« on: May 23, 2009, 09:44:27 PM »
Picked up my tent trailer this afternoon (used) cash deal. Got 2 blocks from where we picked it up and BOOM! Left wheel fell off the trailer. All the bolt holding the wheel onto the hub had loosened and fell out. The guy who sold it to me does not seem to want to man up to help with the problem. Upon further inspection it seems as though the wheels were a little too big for the hub they were bolted to as the bolt holes seemed a little off.
SO I am looking at just replacing the whole axle assembly so I KNOW that it is safe to tow. Anyone know where i could get a great deal? I used to work at standens and could maybe get a deal through them. Rather give someone here the business.
I know I could go to PA but not really sure how reliable they would be.
It is a 77 Starcraft Tent Trailer. Not really sure how much it weighs, going tomorrow to try to find the specs and mesure the axle.
Any help would be great.

Thanks

Randy

I swapped in a Princess Auto axle into my 69 Sportscraft trailer.  Worked perfectly.  $169 if I remember correctly.  They have lots of options.

Princess auto axles are fine.  You probably need a 3500lb axle at minimum but check to see what the GVWR of your trailer is and buy and axle that will handle that weight.

Went with Standens. 3500lb axle for around $200 custom made to my specs.
