FOOTWEAR?
« on: May 26, 2009, 10:09:28 AM »
ok last time i was out at mclean creek it was fairly muddy and i was wearing running shoes and i also forgot to take my carpeted floor mats out and put my rubber ones in. needless to say the jeep was a mess of mud the next day. i was just wondering what every one wears on their feet when they are wheelin' ?

are rubber boots the best? what about crocs and shorts? any other suggestions?

sandals are the best nothing like mud between your toes.  ;D I do carry along a pair of hikers and a pair of rubber boots along.

Hikers. Rubber boots will do in a pinch, but if it's a long run that can make for some pretty funky experiences when it's time to take your boots off  :-[
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

summer will be sandals. or nothing.  mud sucks.  still cleaning the YJ after the Assault.  if it were warmer i'd have worn sandals for sure.

winter wheeling, boots. warm ones.  summer wheelin sandals. mud wheeling, well if u going into the slop i'd wear rubber boots.  i go sandals cause i don't care about the muddy feet feeling. feels cool. plus i like shifting in bare feet/mud

Wear a good pair of boots.. bring spare wool socks... no cotton.

You never know what can happen in the bush,... you might have to walk out.

Sandals/ crocs are not for wheeling

Don't you mean you prefer to go bare foot with the effects of wearing sandles by painting stripes on your feet???

Can't go wrong with a retro pair of J.C. Water Walkers.

If you know you're going to be stepping in the muck deeper than rubber boots pick up a pair of surplus jungle boots, they squish the water out as you walk. I'd also not wear denim as they tend to stay wet for a long time, quick dry cargo pants is the way to go, or shorts.
This is not 'Nam, this is wheeling.  There are rules.

Steel toed work boots.  You wont lose them in the mud, don't have to worry about stepping on stuff and they're pretty good at keeping your feet dry.
I just can’t resist a good mud hole!  🤦

as a passenger i wear my solomon hiking boots. these are high on the ankle and are water prrof to the top. very good support for walking through, over, and around anything. i dont drive with these as they are stiffer then the usual light duty hiker.
when i drive i prefer either a lighter hiking boot or my work poly toed work boots. the owrk boots are light, water proof to the upper ankle and warm. good protection too. comfortable to drive in. light hiking boots are comfy to drive in as well.
i prefer a boot with good traction as getting in and out of the jeep can be a pain with shitty shoes. and running around on the trail can be hazardous without good footwear.
