Where to find a nutsert tool?
« on: May 28, 2009, 12:38:47 PM »
As per the title...
My t-case skid is coming loose, one of the nutserts are just spinning & another I think fell out, have to double check on that one.
Also, does anyone know off hand what size nutserts are used for the skid plates?
Thanks!

Anyone?!?!?
Is this something I can pick up from Princess / Autovalue or do I have to go to a shop to have this done?

I honestly wouldnt bother with a nutsert, they will spin or strip again on your some day. What about welding a nut to the backside of the bracket or tab?

The tool required also depends on the size of the nutsert..Have you found out which size you are working with?

Thanks for the reply!
The bolt used is a M10x1.5x35, that's all I know. I think the tack weld idea is best, it didn't even cross my mind to do so. I was so concerned with the nut being loose inside the frame & not having access to it. So where can I go to have someone do this for me? If I go to a shop will they charge shop labor hrs for 3 nuts to be tack welded?

Thanks for the offer JENSEN...  8)

I can help you with that, working on a full 3/8 plate skid/belly pan on the XJ right now. Mock up what you want it to look like or make a plan and let me know I am sure it can be made to work

Thank you, I truly appreciate that...
I'll remove the plate tomorrow, prep the areas of concern & pick up all the hardware that I think will be needed & I'll shoot you a pm when I've done so.
Awesome!!! You made my day..  ;D

On my old XJ I picked up a new nut, drilled out the stripped hole in the frame bigger that the outside diameter of the nut. I welded the nut to a plate then placed the plate against the frame with the nut in the hole, next weld the plate to the frame. Nice and strong and the skid is still flush to the frame.

Thanks guys..   :D
Clay, that's a great idea..
I'm hoping to do this on Sat or Sun, depending on people schedules.. But like I said, I want to have everything I need for materials in my hand & all the prep work done so I'm not a burden on anyone here..
