Death Wobble Trouble
« on: June 01, 2009, 10:17:10 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the group and new to the jeep community as a whole.  A few months ago, I was driving down deerfoot and experienced the wobble for the first time. Of course, I had no idea what it was at the time and nearly had a panic attack. Since then though, I have been wobble free till about a week ago. It started up again and this time, it came back with a vengeance. I had it hit me four times on one particular stretch of road. My 03 tj is completely stock with no lift kits. I'm not at all mechanically incline though I am capable with some instructions. I was thinking about getting a tire balance to see if that would maybe fix things. Does anyone have any diagnosing suggestions that someone with my abilities (or lack thereof) could accomplish?  All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Most people will say to change everything under the front end till you fix it - personally mine disappeared after changing the tire's Breaks, trac bar, bushings and the pinion arm(idler arm).  most of that will not affect it but something in there fixed it

My two incidences with the death wobble were cured with a new bushing on my track bar at the axle end.  Mine happened on the same stretch of road when I hit a bridge at about 85kph.

track bar. its always track bar lol.  other stuff (wheels, bearings etc.) will magnify it.
neighbours was like that. same road, same spot. deerffoot = deathwobble finder. track bar felt good but i wasn't 100$% sure to spend the 200$ on a new one. so had a second eye (bnine, thanks)  and he verified it.
check uyr axle end to see if the axle bracket hole has been rounded off, then the bushing at frame end.

The trick is too know where to look and the second set of eyes.  Then it becomes blaringly obvious.

Hahaha thanks for the all the help. Unfortunately both the knowing where to look and the second eyes options are both out of reach this time. I've spent days reading up on this but there's only so much reading can do for you. I'll still give it a shot though. Learning something new everyday.
