transmission temperature
« on: July 09, 2009, 08:37:58 AM »
so i have taken the carpet out of my xj and am planning on bed lining the interior, but what i have noticed is that my tranny tunnel becomes very hot, so hot that while driving it is painfull to hold your hand on it. i dont have any exhaust leaks (in that area ::) ) i am wondering if this is normal or is my tranny is overheating? what temp does the aw4 run at? i have recently changed the tranny oil filter and gave it a flush so i know the coolant is good. i am considering installing an aftermarket tranny oil cooler to help it cool down.

has any one else experienced this, am i being overly cautious?

a tranny cooler is a very good idea. every auto should come with one. odds are its not your tranny causing the hot floor, its your exhaust. its not leaking, its just that damn hot. the heat will radiate from the exhaust system onto the closest thing, your floor. now, you can X that by 100 if you still have your cat con. thats why there are heat shields around important parts. i have o carpet in my YJ, just bedlined floor. i could never drive in the summer with the doors on, its too hot. of course its too cold in winter too lol.

i was not really thinking exhaust because where i am talking about is a good foot and a half from any exhaust part the only thing that is close is my tranny and tcase. when i can afford a cooler i will put one on.
