Jeep Owner in Need

It is about a Manitoba man who kidnapped a women. She was able to jump out of a moving vehicle to free herself. A passing couple in a Jeep stopped and picked her up. The Manitoba man (Jeffery) then proceeded to chase them down ramming their vehicle which ended up writing off the vehicle. Now the couples insurance company will not pay because the person who ran them off the road did not have insurance and they are saying it is on him.
I was wondering if Calgary Jeep would be interested in doing a fundraiser to not only help out a fellow jeeper but also a hero. This was on CJAY 92 this morning and maybe if we raise some money someone could take it in to CJAY I am sure old Forbes would do his best to see it got to the right person.
I would like to start off the donation by putting in at least $200 of my own money if anyone else is interested or if Calgary Jeep can do something I would love to help.

When you translate that from Corporate-Speak, it means "Now that the media is involved, we have realized that it would cost us money to deny coverage to someone that has paid for it"

If I understand this correctly, the people in the jeep choose to save on costs of insurance by only picking up the minimal insurance for thier rig. This is something anybody with an older vehicle chooses and decides to to at the time of renewal.

Media coverage on the story or not, I personally think the insurance company has done a stand up move for thier client. I really don't think it's thier responsibility to go over and above just because the other driver involved was uninsured or stole the car and damaged thiers. That should be left for a unjustified damages law suit from the jeep owner against the other guy.

My hats off to the insurance company. Now if thier client had full coverage to begin with then it would be a completely different situation.

You're right...there's no reason insurance should be covering this if they weren't paying to be covered for collision.  Regardless of the morals involved, TD is doing a very nice thing by covering it for them, especially seeing as it is a ZJ....they could just pay them out what it's worth, which isn't much these days.

I had considered that their insurance would not have included collision that is why I was not quick to bash th insurance company. I only knew that someone who actually had the guts to do something nice got screwed and I was hoping to help them out.
As for their insurance company it is fully nice of them to cover the damadge write off or not.
I can only hope that if this situation happens again the fact that the insurance company hmm'd and haa'd keep someone from doing the same.
I am proud to be an Albertan and I think that almost every Albertan I know would stop and help someone in need.

Why would you need collision coverage when a phsyco is the one ramming you and putting you off road.

Not to mention, even they had that kind of coverage, why would they before forced use it when

1, they were attacked and hit by another driver

2, it would up their insurance premiums meaning they would be forced to pay out of pocket for actually helping another human being.

No one else see these flaws in the  "what coverage did they have" concern?

Thats not totally true either. The government will sometimes make the settlement for an un insured driver, and then chase him down for the money. I am sure these peoples insurance company will do this anyways.

I went to college with a guy that had a life long garnish to pay off 150k$ due to severly injuring some folks in a car crash when he was un insured.

I believe that Bnine is right. I think that the government has a specific fund for uninsure/underinsured drivers....but I might be wrong.

They used to, but they squashed that fund years ago - used it towards the debt I believe. As far as I know, they haven't brought it back yet. They should though, it's a good way to help out victims. Don't know if &/or what the government does now days...
