I have a cherry bomb Turbo on my ZJ. It sounds mean, but doesn't get that annoying rap  like a glasspack does. Its got 8 fire holes, not sure how it would sound on a 6.

My previous red neck chevys had 3" pro flow, and 3" diesel exhaust (on a gasser, previous owner did it, but it did sound pretty good)
The pesent sierra has dynomax on but its rather quiet

cherry bomb will just make people roll their eyes when you drive by.  if you want a good sounding exhaust, get something like a flowmaster, its like an extra what, 60$?. i used to runa  40 series; quiet with a nice sounding note. i think the 50s are a little louder, but at least it won't sound like a backfiring mis-timed hicked-up chevy 350 (which i roll my eyes at)

remember, loud doesn't equal cool.  but cool can sometimes be loud........

I am with JOhnnyC... there are way too many shi**y sounding vehicles on the road these days (straight piped Harleys get the gold especially when the rider has a skull bandanna over their face... rice burners w/ a 6" muffler hanging/dragging out the back get the silver... and the bronze has to go to the Cummings Turb0 diesel). They are ALL pretty much just loud & annoying or sound like a red neck leaf blower ???

IMHO... it's hard to screw up the sound of a V8 but it takes shear "Harry Potter wizardry" make a I4 or a I6 sound good.

OH ya... an answer to your question... I run a Magnaflow and it sounds decent... I don't feel like a hick while driving it... and no one rolls their eyes at me  ::)

Us Jeep guys need to be a little more discriminating in our tastes and set a good example for the "offenders" to follow  8)

x2 on Calgary Muffler, great guys, had me in and out in 30 minutes with a great weld job and all new brackets.  Im running a magnaflow Catback sytem with a high performance Dynomax muffler.

Don't take your cat off, its crap for the environment and the HP gains are minimal (1-5HP) , if not non-existent.  Running no CAT is just more ammo for people who want to shut down wheeling in Alberta.

That turbo or supercharger winding up and the wastegate dumping when you shift tends to make the ricerockets crap in their drawers tho.  Couple that with a stroker with the right cam and a good quiet, but not over muffled exhaust and you'd have a winner I bet, I6 or not.  I'm dying to try it, but haven't won the lottery (YET).

Sounds like wizardry to me ;D

As far as noise concerns go, I'm with JohnnyC & Muffintop.  As soon as your Jeep sounds like a car with a 1.3L engine, a transaxle, & a tailpipe thicker than Rosie O'Donell's cankles,  you lose harder than the guy who tried to ride his bicycle across the Yellowhead in Edmonton last week.

my grand is a 6 and i have the turbo, some people would have heard it at the 101, it's a little loud for the bush. no one wants to hear a nasty sounding truck when wheelin, well i don't.

I have the Aero performance muffler on my WJ with the H.O. 4.7 and it sounds amazing...bought it and had it installed at Calgary Muffler, also removed the the large cat. one of the three on there.. The Aero is basicly a Flowmaster just costs less!... I know the v8 is gonna sound quite a bit different than a I6 , but thought I would just throw that out to ya....

Okay I also rolled my eyes at the name "cherry bomb" but it was what local parts guys carried. So I had em drop on off which I then installed, nice HD black case, installed great and I'm pretty happy with it. Not too loud or droning, just a little noise to remind you it's there. Followed pookapotamus on trail the other day and his wasn't annoying to be behind, and I'm turning into a grumpy old fart that doesn't like loud exhaust anymore.
