Long arms in stock frame ca mounts? (rear)

Say if someone replaced their stock rear control arms with a set of long arms BUT used the stock frame control arm mounts....

Would that work? Im no fabb'er and i havent talked this over with one yet....

Goal would be to stretch the rear diff back.

for the bottom arms it could be done but you would have to check clearances and line issues as well as address your driveshft length. For the top the angles of the arms could be an issue, unless you possibly copies the way front long arms are done and attached the upper links to the lowers and made a TTB set up like a ford. not sure how it would ride though. Or maybe try some ZJ rear arms for a little bit of stretch.

Brinks making the arms so length will be determined prior to install, and rear mounts need to be welded to the 14 yet. But it would sure make mounting them ALOT easier. Though I suppose moving them wouldnt be all to hard either.

Just curious if you could run it without any major issues.

If you're going to the trouble of custom arms... redo the mounts right.  Moving the mounts and using something like this  isn't too bad.  I think the hardest part was cutting/grinding off the old mounts.  That took some time.  The gen-right brackets just slip over the frame and you weld them into place.

If you're using a different axle it could probably work, but the frame side mounts could probably use some beefing up you're going to use them. And if you're going to do some welding anyways it might be better to have brink make some frame mounts as well. Then you'll know they can take a turd kickin and survive.

I agree, re-working the frame side mounts would be a good idea.  Either relocate or strengthen then since they would become the weak point of the setup if everything else has been beefed up.  How much stretch are you going for?

A bunch of lift companies make 4" lifts that still use the stock mounts.  Seems that after 4" the geometry changes too much and requires the mounts moved to maintain a decent on-road ride.  That and still using the stock mounts is going to start defeating the point of using longer arms.

TeraFlex, Currie, and RockKrawler come to mind as sources for pre-made 4-link JK control arm brackets (sure there are others).  Off Road Evolution, Ballistic Fabrication and AtoZ Fabrication all make generic weld-on CA brackets.  OR you could always make your own.

To cut off the stock mount near the gas tank is tricky, and from installs that I read not too much is salvageable of the original once removed.  All those installs warn against using a torch or plasma cutter on that bracket for obvious gasoline-related reasons.
