I had a Trailblazer SS that did the very same thing. It was related to a low battery though... not mud.

I remember hooking battery cables up to it and "it let go" of the key. Must have known I meant business  ;)

Weird... hope that never happens to me.  I've plastered the inside of my JK with mud and so far so good.

That happened in our WJ.... finally got the key out, squeezed some graphite lube into the cylinder.... no problems since (knock on wood).
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.
