Sunday Oct 18th at McLean
« on: October 17, 2009, 03:20:37 PM »
There will be a couple of us heading out Sunday to McLean to explore, feel free to join us newbies ( Muffintop and myself) for some fun and exploring. Even better if you know the area better than us but not essential, a bigger group is easier to spot from the air. Sorry for the late posting, kinda last minute plan.

I'm interested. Post a time you be at the store until. If I can join you, I'll make it before then.

Do you have an idea when you plan to be out til?

Thanks,
Ryan

Visible from the air? Air you planning to require a rescue?

By the way folks...I was out today...conditions are very interesting.

Most holes have a thick layer of ice over top of them...but it's not enough to support a Jeep. We broke through every single hole we tried - and the ice is thick enough to be an obstacle.

Also, the snow is slippery, and the temperatures have been high enough that the ground isn't frozen - expect mud as well as snow.

Please be cautious out there...things that were easy in the summer required a winch today  :o
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

We did McLean ridge (top of the world) from the North side. None of the four (quite capable) rigs got through the day without needing at least one or two tugs, and my winch got a definite workout.

The western side (the shortest route up from McLean Trail) is in reasonable shape though. It should still be quite do-able for a stocker as long as you have reasonable tires.

Ya I was thinking the entrance at priddis creek trail off Mclean trail should be reasonable, if we decide to do Top of the world..
Does the north side entrance start just off the gravel road near the first cattle gate?

Planning to get to store at McLean at 9am. Will wait and see who shows and discuss where to wheel. Top of the World sounds like a good idea, we will probaly wheel till early afternoon, like most trips, home in time for some feet up time and dinner.

You dont have anything sturdy on the front you could loop a strap around (prior to getting stuck of course)?

That or if ya know where your going and want to lead... you probabaly dont need front tow hooks... just rear ones  ;)
