Waiparous - Sunday October 25
« on: October 23, 2009, 09:06:06 AM »
Meeting a couple friends to head out to Waiporous on Sunday.

Meeting at Tim Horton's Cochrane around 9:00AM Sunday, then heading to the gravel pit to prep.

No set trail yet, but certainly open for suggestions.

All are welcome, just show up.

With the rain scheduled for Saturday, should make Sunday very interesting!!

See you there.

A lot of people will be out in McLean helping with a trail project on Saturday and Sunday.  Bring your friends out there to help out!  ;)

I'm not sure if I can make it, but I'll try. I'd be in a 2dr JK Rubi Black.

Only 2 runs open to 4x4 at Waiparous.  1 run that leads to the river and 1 that leads to the water fall.

new that the run to the falls was closed.  None of my maps indicate other closures.  Any more info on that?

Sorry can't make the repair event, not many days available for me.

Not new. It was this way last year as well...and the year before, I'm pretty sure.

I don't want to preach but saying that you're to busy to contribute to a trail project, but have enough time to go out wheeling doesn't make a pile of sense to me.  ???

You may not find that many folks that are active on this board out wheeling on Sunday, as most of us feel obliged to contribute to the trail network that we use. Those of use that can't make it this weekend are in generall in the "really can't make it" category, and won't be out wheeling either.
I followed a rainbow out to a garage and found a leprichaun. The rainbow ended in a potted cactus on his porch, but there was no gold :(

Other side of the coin

Not all of us are up to date on trail projects. Should we all check to make sure there is no projects going on before we go wheelin? ( YES,In a perfect world  :P) Ideally many more people should help, but at the same time  I know if I made plans to hit the trails sunday with friends I wouldn't say "oh trail project guys, I know we made plans but..."   Trail projects are awesome and everyone who uses the trails owes everyone who helps. Its such a good thing and questioning peoples motives and making them feel guilty won't make very many people help. The ones that would help probably wouldn't be helping for the right reasons.

Just thought i'd bring that point up...Didn't mean to sidetrack the thread or anything, just my 2 cents anyways

I appreciate the necessity of trail maintenance and the magnitude of volunteers and thier efforts.

However, there are a couple reasons why I won't be there.  First is because of my prior commitments, to myself and my friends.

Also, I just found out about it, after commiting myself to going out.

Lastly, I think I have garnered some outstanding volunteer credit.  I volunteer at a Calgary High School, coaching boys rugby.  This equates to 3 hours a day, 4 -5 days a week, 3 - 4 months every year, for the last 6 years.  The time I spend volunteering, allow the local members of the CJA and this board to go out wheeling every spring, instead of coming out and help me keep your kids off the street.  I've being doing this long enough to know that so few parents take an active role in the extracaricular activities of their kids.  So few parents even show up, and even fewer thank me for the time I give to the program that their kids enjoy.  However, every young man that I have coached has thanked me for the time I give to them.

Now does that mean I don't need to help out on the trails?  Nope, just means that I don't have the same amount of time to wheel as many of you here do.

So hate me if you will, but I need the break.  I apologise for not being able to help and for the long winded post.  Feel free to ignore it.

Thankfully I don't have kids, but I do like to volunteer my services to trail projects, when my schedule allows.
if we were smart with our money we wouldn't own Jeeps.

The "Who's going to help with the trail project on the 24th and 25th" post has been up since October 5th. Yes...three weeks ago. There's been lots of noise about this one.

Not everyone can make it for every trail project, and that's okay...I'd just like to make sure that folks using the CJA website are aware that we are about more than just a website where trail runs get posted. A LOT of volunteer hours get put in to benefit the wheeling community.

It sure doesn't help that none of us have to lift our hands much above waist level to reach his chin  ;D
