YJ seats
« on: November 14, 2009, 03:18:45 PM »
I bought a 95 YJ. (My first jeep) and the driver's seat is broken. I found a pair of seats from a 90 YJ that the guy said would fit on my 95. I bought them and when I went to change it over, I noticed that they are different. The 90 seat has four bolts with nuts which looks simple enough but the seats in my 95 have four torx screws holding the seat to the stand that it sits on. I could get to the two rear ones if I move the seat all the way forward (and if I had the right wrench) but I can't see how to get the front ones off. Has anyone done this swap? I am not very mechanical but I thought this would be an easy job. One other thing. My 95 seats have a reclining mechanism and the 90 seats do not. I don't know if this has any bearing as it looks like the bolt pattern is the same on both. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

So are the replacement seats not still attached to the mounting frame?(the part that slides)  What part is broken on your seat?  What is different about the seats?  Is it just the bolts or is that mounting frame a different shape or something?
From looking at mine (a '94) the ends of the slide tracks are punched so that the seat doesn't slide off the track.  I imagine that the seats are bolted to the slide track before they are punched meaning that you cannot just take them apart.

The replacement seats have the sliders attached. The sliders have two bolts on each one that bolt to the seat bracket. The original seats have a two torx screws that bolt the sliders to the seat bracket. I did not get the mounting frame with the replacement seats. My original seat is not really broken but bent. The seat back is sitting at an angle. It sounds like you have the same seats. The ends of the rails are punched as well. I may have just bought the wrong seats for my jeep.
