Steering Upgrade
« on: December 21, 2009, 09:52:03 AM »
Merry Xmas everyone I have a question for you. I have been jumping back and forth on what type of steering upgrade I should do with my red XJ. I am thinking Currie but it will not help out with the angles (lifted 6.5"). I was also thinking JCR but I hear stories about a dead spot in the steering. Anybody here have any experience from what they have done not read about on the web. Thanks

I put this on my xj and it had about 5 inches of lift.
I think that is about the max that they recommend for the currie system, maybe a little more.
it is a very beefy system that looks like it should hold up well.

right now I have a bit of play in the steering box, but everything feels loads better than before(but I did have alot of issues with the stock set up before.
97 Red XJ, 4.5", 31" mud's, ARB front, 9500lb winch, bushwhacker's, warn sliders, HnT SYE and CV drive shaft - written off and sold for parts :(

I'm currently running the Currie drag link and tie rod Mike. Our XJ's are similar in height and build. I've logged a lot of highway and off-road kms on this system. It's been used and abused. No signs of wear or damage thus far. I have no binding issue's at all.  Steering is still vague as before the mod; but it's a Jeep. I'm pleased with the Currie steering. I hope this helps.
