They're now needed for most companies working out in the bush using snowmobiles. Same thing for quads. I'll check with my father, I know he can do the courses for quads, not sure about the snowmobiles, but I'm sure he'll know who/where you can go.

That stuff's been around for years. Those of us that have had to use a sled or quad for work have needed a ticket indicating that we've been trained in the basics of how to safely operate it for at least ten years or so.

Thanks for the help on this one guys.  A good friend won a contract up North and needs to provide proof of sled competency prior to heading out into the field. Even though he's been riding for years, the lawyers need to cover their asses in order to limit liability.

yyc_tbrid, thanks for investigating. Look forward to your response!

Merry Christmas/Happy New year all.

Joyeux Noel/Bonne Annee for you Dom!

I talked with my father this morning....he's still able to sign off on the ATV Course, but currently the snowmobile course was under change. However, the Canada Saftey Council does have a Snowmobile Competency Course here --> http://safety-council.org/training/snowmobile-operators-course/. There is also the Alberta Safety Council, but I could not find anything on their website. I'm also not sure about who is doing the sign-offs locally, but try calling the guy on the webpage.

It's called graduated licensing  ;D

I know, the exam needs to be harder...or people need to be less lazy about applying the skills they learned.
