2.5L Cam and lifters
« on: December 28, 2005, 10:39:05 PM »
Anybody change out the cam and lifters on a vintage' 1988 2.5L?  This may sound stupid, but is anybody aware of a better performing camshaft than stock, and where its available?  My four banger is getting noisey, and if I'm gonna be tearing it apart, I might as well upgrade.

Thanks
Darren

yeah there are cams......do a search because I can't remember who does it now.....Mopar used to make cam's; but they discontinued them for the 2.5 jeep.
Comparing the spec's of the Mopar cams (lift and duration) that I've read reviews on and the cams offered by other manufacturers (more kift less dration) , I'm not sure of their performances..I think I posted spec's before, and I know I have all of them at home......PM me if you want me to pull them up!!! (it's no problem)

Peace,
Mike

Clifford and there is another one both have performance cams.  I have looked at them but they are both pretty wicked from what I have been told.  Mopar used to make 3 different cams but has discontinued them a few years ago.

I have been toying with this idea for a while now, but have not come to any solutions

Hey Darren, maybe you know about

http://www.4bangerjp.com/forums/index.php

Once you register it opens up a bunch more forums, with alot of technical info. I believe there is some info about cams somewhere, maybe in the FAQ's

I used to have an open mind but my brains kept falling out.

I was hoping to buy a hotter cam last summer while  my 2.5 was apart to be rebuilt.
Had no success getting a Mopar performance cam , they supplied my valve springs , the same springs that would have been fine to run with a hotter cam.  I ended up using a stock replacment cam and lifters , push rods , rocker arms and pivots , all of it supplied by the machine shop that re-ground the crank and bored the cylinders.
