So my wife dropped her JK off at the dealership yesterday because her steering was "acting up". It had been doing this intermittently since mid December, but I had always attributed it to her having it in 4wd and turning tightly and not being familiar with what it feels like. I drove the jeep to Coldlake during one of our pre-christmas snowstorms and experienced nothing. We came back to Calgary and I happened to be in the driveway one day while it was idling and I heard the pump in the reservoir rattling away.... I checked the fluid which was low topped it up and left it, a couple days later I figured I would check it again, I am not sure why I decided to but I am glad I did. The fluid was back down and I could see where some fluid had leaked out and sprayed over the engine compartment.
I believe the Jeep was at 59,300 km at this point, I told her to get it booked in as soon as she could. She dropped the Jeep off at the dealership yesterday morning at 59,994km. As it turns out "something" came apart inside the steering system, and it is now full of tiny little pieces of metal, and will be replaced by warranty
.
In the future I may be a little bit quicker to check things out when she says something is wrong with her Jeep.
