Kill Switch Options?

Due to the number of XJ theft attempts...  (and other jeeps im sure)  i thought maybe someone could provide some information on how best to install a kill switch option on our jeeps.

I'm not sure if the information can be generic and work for all models... or if my post should be for a specific model. 

If required... i personally would like to know how to do one for my 99 XJ.  It has the chip keys. 

Speaking of chip keys...  how effective are those in preventing vehicle theft??

Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated by myself and many others im sure.

I have never heard of a vehicle with a chipped key be driven away without the proper key.
As an added theft deterrent, you can intercept the fuel pump circuit and install a hidden toggle switch.

I would like to know if I can add one to my 98 TJ for when I take my doors and roof off for the majority of the summer.

Are the older Jeep Cherokee's a popular vehicle for thieves?
I am not putting theft on my rig, so I think I will be installing a cut-off switch on the fuel pump.

All I do is remove the starter relay from the main fuse block under the hood if i know I will be gone for a while.
98 XJ Classic with a Fulltraction 6" lift 35" MTZ on Procomp rims. Locked front and rear with 4.56 gears. Warn bumber with 9000lb winch. Custom built rock rails, rear bumber with sotc, and skid plates.

have you priced out theft?  i left my jeep with fire/theft only when I went out of the country, cost me less than $50 for 3 months so it  wasn't that much per year.  of course everything is like that and adds up too

the old owner of my cherokee installed a kill switch to the steering column on my jeep so if its off there is zero power to the steering column

I did the one on Mudhawg jeep. another thing that I have done before is intercepted the ign to solenoid on starter, and put a relay inbetween. This relay get energized by another switch like rear defrost, wipers, headlights, high speed fan etc. Just so you get the idea, you have to turn this function on inorder for the ign curcuit to solenoid on starter to work. A hidden switch works too. For this reason they can bust the column, do what ever they want but if they do not find the hidden switch or relay, they are not getting it. They tried on that jeep and it simple did not happen.

its true still got the damage to prove it haha really should buy a new ignition so it stops falling out driving down the road

That has got to be one of the best ideas i've heard.   

Looks like i've got another weekend wiring project coming up!

I just paid the insurance today saying no to theft and fire because the rig was so cheap. I will ask her how much it is when I am there again with safety papers.

if you dont mind me asking are you sure its chipped?

ive just never seen a chrysler/dodge/jeep with chipped keys in anything older than 2001. if the key is black its not chipped

The difference between basic insurance & full comprehensive with theft & glass is $17 a month with my policy.Pretty cheap piece of mind.  Will probably go up a bit when I get a full appraisil one of these days, but still worth it in my opinion.
