drive line clunk

i have started driving the new jeep around and one thing i have noticed is, if i let off the gad while driving and then go on it again (not heavily) that i get a clunk from the drive line. i have checked all the ujoints and they are fine and there does not seem to be excessive play in the pinions.

so what could this be?

I have the same thing going on in my TJ. Here is stuff I have looked at and replaced with no luck so far...

Checked and replaced the rear control arm bushings.
Replaced the tranny mount.
Replaced rear sway bar bushing.

everytime I changed something it seemed to be a little better but its still there!

Can really feel any play in my u-joints but that is what I am going to try next.

I got the same thing, but only in 4x4, comes from the front.

are you in 2x4?

I'd look at the drive shaft.  I have one that happens on the Libby.

Maybe front upper arm bushings on the diff if it's not from drive line......

it happens in both 4 and 2. well if it is a suspention component they are all getting replaced any way here soon! drive shafts are getting replaced as well i will just have to wait and see what happens i guess.

Ever check your engine mounts?

Older Chyslers used to wear out the cross pins inside the rear diffs. It's the pin that goes through the carrier and is the idler for the sun gears. With the rear cover off you could see the pin moving around when you rocked the yoke back and forth. The loose pin made a heavy clunk on/off the gas.

Stupid answer have you checked your wheels for tightness,  same as for the brakes, and axels?  They can all make some strange clunks at strange times.  As well there is nothing that can roll around in the back that is hitting something.  I looked for a long time for my clunk then found a frozen bottle of water in the cubby hole in the back of my jk.  It made a strange clunk that sounded like suspension.

Any chance theres a detroit locker in the rear?  

They add to the "play" in the driveline.  Make some odd clunks from time to time.
