well the battery just crapped out in the jeep soooo what would be a better to best kind to get. also keep in mind i'm installing a warn 8274 winch thats sitting in my garage.

optima yellow top for winching, or, other hi end deep cycle batteries with lots of reserve.

i think they average about 175-200$ at the 4x4 shops. costco had them at one point, not sure anymore. i know there are other hi end batteries out there im just not sure who sells them. others may chime in with info.

I picked my red top up at wall mart a year or so ago.  They also had either the blue or yellow  I think it was blue which would be better because I beleive they have top and side terminals with wing nuts for adding stuff like a winch.  I think they were around $180 at the time.

I just picked up a yellow top but it cost me $240.   I was lazy and the shop was close to home so i paid the extra to save me driving all the way to the south end of the city.   haha

Other source is Battery World.  I know they have the optima's but they have other brands as well.

I'm running two Motomaster Eliminator Spiral Cell batteries from Canadian Tire, they are made by Exide. Same design as the Optimas. Comes with a 10yr warranty with the first 3 years being full replacement.

After toasting two Optimas(I bought both used though) I decided to go this route for the convenience. I live in Cochrane and there are Canadian Tires all over. I don't have a costco membership and any other places that sells them are in South Calgary. So far I've got two years on one and almost a year on the other. The original gets killed all the time from the Jeep sitting long periods and it bounces back every time.

Note about side post teminals. DO NOT hook your winch power leads to a side post terminal. I have seen two Optimas that melted out their positive side post terminal from heavy winching. Its fine to put your accessories on there just not a winch.

I agree...I've also seen some big stereo's hooked up to the side terminals that have melted them out. It turns out that the side terminals are just an extension of the top terminals using some cheap tin plating that overheats and melts the plastic housing. I've seen one catch fire from doing this, and have also read not to use them with a winch.
