tranny slipping? maybe transfer case?
« on: January 06, 2006, 08:32:46 PM »
I've got a 79 CJ7, and when accelerating, it seems to be slipping.  It's not very consistent though.  Some history, re-did the rear end not too long ago.  Complete overhaul on the transmission (Turbo 400, automatic), new torque converter.  When the truck is cold, it seems to work fine, but once it warms up, it slips here and there, sometimes when turning, sometime when just going straight.  Is that a tranny problem, or could it be the transfer case (Quadra Trac).  I've changed the fluid in the Quadra Trac, and I know the tranny has good fluid.  Any ideas, or anything I could try to diagnose the problem?

Thanks!

May be the slipping is your clutch ????

My first reply is low tranny fluid, poor or incorrect tranny fluid, or something bad inside. I've had this in old th350's. Sometimes all it took was a bottle t-doctor to soften things back up, but in a recently rebuilt, I dont know.

I have no experience with quad trac t-cases, but unless they have some sort of clutch system, I'd rule that out.
