Hey Randy

Welcome!

Good luck with the modifications. Sounds like your going so big right away? Any upgrades planed to the axels, what gearing does the jeep have and what diffs? That’s a lot of tire and if they are stock diffs you will need to have some big $ spent on upgrades to handle the stress.

Lots of guys build slowly over time. Don’t know what your 4x4 background is, you said it was your first jeep. Lots of club members wheel on much smaller tires for a few years to build experience. Jeeps on 31” and 33” inch tires can be quite capable and less costly to maintain.  Your welcome to come out to a club meeting. They are the 3rd Wed of each month.  There is never a shortage of guys at the meetings to offer advise and other jeeps to look over and see what mods they have.

Cheers,
Blair

lol yes.

welcome!

love the YJs, they rule ;)

33s is a great starting platform.  you can clear them easily with just a 4" spring under lift like a rubicon express or rough country.  fairly cheap, and is a GREAT way to start, and then you can see what you'd like to mod, etc from there.  you can always add a body lift to clear 35s later you won't need to go spring over;  4" springs and a spring over would give youa  10" lift. that in itself will not work. trust me.

stick to a simple build plan, wheel it and enjoy it!
~ rescue green JKUR on 35s.  typical rubicon build

Hey Pittbull I have a 4.5 inch RE lift on my Jeep TJ with 33 x 12.5 tires and that is plenty big enough. I am 6'6" tall and I find it tall enough.

Blair was right about the gearing. After I did my lift I lost my 5th gear until I upgraded to 4:56 gears.

Most in the club are into off-road use, not just for looks pavement princess. If you really want to get into this hobby take it slow. Try out a few stocker runs see if you like it. The bigger you go the more costly it is to build and maintain your rig. Lots of good people here with good advise. Take your time get to know some club members and plan what you want to use your rig for.  Take it slow and have fun.

Come out to a meeting and see some of the rigs.

There are a ton of stock Jeeps that go out. During the summer there are stocker runs just about every weekend. Its amazing what a stock Jeep can do. You would be blown away once you see your bone stock jeep out on the trail.

I go out with the stock Jeeps all the time because I am new and want to gain experience and take it slow and learn as much as I can. Everywhere I go most of the stock jeeps go too.

If it is a daily driver it can still look good on 31" or 33"  tires but not cost you every penny you make to  keep it on the road. Lots of stockers out at meetings. Thats how you learn.

If you have not 4x4 a lot behind the wheel then learning to read the trail for smaller tires is good experience before going big and getting in over your head. The occasional comment about a small low rider jeep is all in fun. My jeep is only running 33” tires and ran 31” the first few years after going out stock on its first few runs.

Yes, I would like 35” tires but have managed to break enough parts on the 33” tires to make the last few years interesting .

Next meeting is on the 17th.

Cheers.

dont worry about getting flamed, what does not kill you makes you stronger. plus we respect skill more than your rig, you can be a very capable stocker and not get flamed or be totaly built and have no experience and get flammed worse.

if you have front and rear tow points there is a stocker freindly run this weekend.
