Lockrite or Powertrax Problems
« on: March 14, 2010, 09:53:42 AM »
Hey, I have a 96 XJ with the veritable D30 and D35 combo.  The rear has a rebuilt Trac-Loc, but it just isn't giving enough grip.  I was checking into the Lockrite for the rear and the Powertrax for the front.  The guys at Modern Motors won't sell them because of problems and breakage.  I just want some other feed back before I spend twice the money on a Truetrac.  I have brand new 31-9.50-15 TSL Super Swampers on it, so won't be going to anything larger for a long time.  Any feedback would be great.

I ran a lockright in my XJ for a few years with 31s and then swapped it into my dads XJ with 33s. Still going good. Oh yeah, I bought it used.

I see a lot of full sized trucks at Modern and I know they don't do well with big tires and high horse power. Maybe thats where Modern is getting that from.

It all depends on who you talk to at Modern. They warned me as well about ten years ago; citing that people were coming in saying that the "lunchboxes" broke due to this and that. The staff were getting sick of all the complaints and people asking for their money back. Some guy even came in saying he destroyed his locker at a Wendy's drive through on the pavement , while rounding a corner. I've witnesed some serious full throttle attacks with big trucks and V8's with no breakage. Works for some, and others no.

I'm pretty sure you will have no problem using one with your tire size and powerplant. There's TONS of reviews on the net. Good luck.

My neighbor runs a lock-right in his 600+ HP Camaro that he beats the squirt out of on the track.  Has stripped splines and bent axle shafts but the lock-right is still holding strong.   I use on the front with no problems and will be putting one in the rear axle shortly.

I don't think so.  I remember checking into this long time ago and then rebuilt the trac-lock instead of getting the locker.

They do now, for the 8.25" tracloc.  27 and 29 spline, just started making them over the past few years.
