Moab in July
« on: March 16, 2010, 11:26:40 PM »
Hey guys, just chatting with my kids about summer vacation and we are thinking about moab in july.  I am assuming it will be insanely hot at that point.  Any recomendations on places to stay?  Good trails doable in a 4 door rubi, slightly modified?  What is a good length of time to spend down there?

I was in Moab last july, it was uncomfortably hot. 45 degrees and dry as hell. A 2 kilometer hike to see some of the arches was hard to do. I'm not saying not to go if your determined. Just be prepared to sweat your bag off. I've heard its much better in spring and fall. We were just touring through on a long road trip, I plan on going back one day for some awsome trails but I'l definately do it anytime but mid summer.

Takes about 17 or 18 hrs to drive from calgary so probably 2 days with kids. You could spend a week there easy doing not only trails but some easy sight seeing as well.

Doug, we always stay at Canyonlands campground in the cabins but they are bare necessity living.
Other guys i know rent a condo with all the luxuries.

If you do go, i will arrange for a good friend of mine to take you canyoneering. A MUST DO adventure. He is a guide and provides all the gear. He has mild to wild canyons to explore.
i can find out more regarding condos if you would like.
